We have a good soy based marinaded pork steak but wanted to have something more like what we grew up with. Pork steaks marinaded, dry rubbed, grilled and sauced. This one does a good job.
Summary
- Prep Time: 1+ hrs (including marinading)
- Cook Time: 45 min
- Other:
- Total Time: 1 hr 45 min
- Servings: 3
- Yield: 2-3 pork steaks
Ingredients
- 1.5 pounds pork shoulder steak, 2-3 steaks
- 12 ounces light beer
- 4 ounces sweet barbecue sauce
- Spice Rub
- I use the one we use for the Baked BBQ Babyback Ribs but whatever rub you like is fine.
- The ingredients in the original recipe are:
- 1.5 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoons smoked paprika
- 0.5 tablespoon onion powder
- 0.5 tablespoon garlic powder
- 0.5 teaspoon chili powder
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
Directions
- Cover pork shoulder steak in light beer and marinate for a minimum of one hour, up to overnight.
- Prepare a grill to cook low and slow.
- Remove the pork shoulder steaks from the beer, then dry with a paper towel.
- If needed, in a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, salt and pepper.
- Press the spice rub into the pork steaks, coating evenly on both sides. Allow to rest at room temperature.
- Grill on a covered grill over low-medium heat (or indirect heat on high) for 20-25 minutes per side. Make sure to keep the lid closed as much as possible to keep the heat steady and let the smoke circle the pork!
- To finish the pork steaks, grill for an additional 3-4 minutes per side over direct heat, brushing generously with barbecue sauce on each side of the pork steak.
- Transfer to a platter or cutting board and allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm with additional barbecue sauce, if desired.
Adjustments
- Used a dry rub we already had.
History
- 2026-08-07 – Made with our rib rub and only made a single pork steak since it’s only the two of us. It turned out great making another pork steak flavor option for us.
