Mashed Potatoes

Simple but classic.  Adjust ingredients as desired.

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs Idaho potatoes
  • 1 stick butter (0.25 lb)
  • Milk (~1 cup)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Cooked and crumbled bacon (optional)
  • Shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Directions

  1. Peel potatoes and quarter.  
  2. Boil until soft.  
  3. Cut up butter and put into large bowl.  
  4. Mash with potato masher until butter is incorporated.  
  5. Add some of the milk and mash until mixed.  
  6. Repeat until desired consistency.  
  7. Salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Place in baking dish
  9. Top with cheese and bacon, if desired.
  10. Heat in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes or until hot.

Adjustments

  • Use warmed milk (2025).

History

  • 2025-11-18 – Farm Thanksgiving. Kathy suggested I heat the milk before adding it to the potatoes so we did that this year. Not sure I could tell the difference but regardless, the results were very good.
