Asparagus will be one of the year one crops we plant. Since it will take 2-3 years to get a harvestable crop, the sooner we get it going the better. Since it needs well drained soil, this one is a good candidate for a raised bed. That’s the way the bed at my grandmother’s house was made.

Looking into heirloom varieties it seems Mary Washington is the name that comes up the most. It’s available from Burpee and RareSeeds.
