Asparagus

Asparagus will be one of the year one crops we plant. Since it will take 2-3 years to get a harvestable crop, the sooner we get it going the better.  Since it needs well drained soil, this one is a good candidate for a raised bed.  That’s the way the bed at my grandmother’s house was made.

Growing References:

There is a site dedicated to asparagus (out of England) called Asparagus Lovers and there is a lot if good information there.

Varieties

Looking into heirloom varieties it seems Mary Washington is the name that comes up the most.  It’s available from Burpee and RareSeeds.
