I’m sure I want to include asparagus in our garden but am on the fence whether it’s a 2024 candidate or I will need to take more time during my first year of retirement to properly prepare a bed for it. Since it needs well drained soil, this one is a good candidate for a raised bed. That’s the way the bed at my grandmother’s house was made.

There is a site dedicated to asparagus (out of England) called Asparagus Lovers and there is a lot if good information there.
Varieties
Looking into heirloom varieties it seems Mary Washington is the name that comes up the most. It’s available from Burpee and RareSeeds.
Since the garden won’t be relocated I my put retaining wall blocks around the bed. Reference here from Home Depot.
